Where We Once Roamed
When I am blessed to have the opportunity to watch the buffalo dance,
I hear the ancient voices singing the melodies of the animal that fed us, clothed us, and warmed our freezing bodies.
It is a reminder that those who came before us sacrificed their lives in order for us to live.
That is all my ancient people had, A thousand years ago…
I’m lost in thought and suddenly I am
Awakened from my daydream as the beautiful buffalo pass by with bells ringing and rattles
shaking as I watch them softly pass.
A tear falls as I feel the power of my people
Silent
Strong
And thankful for the mighty animal that kept us alive.
