Squash Blossoms

Squash Blossom necklaces are iconic Navajo-Diné designs. The “squash blossoms” are actually stylized representations of pomegranate flowers (introduced by the Spanish). Despite the name, they have no direct connection to actual squash blossoms. These necklaces became popular in the early 20th century and remain a cornerstone of Navajo silversmithing.
