Yavapai Apache, Ca. 1900, with human and animal figurines
13″ x 3″
Yavapai work is identified by their construction, three small, scraped willow rods finely sewn together. Apache baskets have larger coil foundations while Yavapai have smaller foundations and finely coiled with fine tight stitching. This may be partially attributed to the lack of materials for Yavapai weavers at lower elevations in Arizona, making these baskets rare and highly sought after.
