This handsome rectangular tufa cast belt buckle by well-known Navajo silversmith Tommy Jackson, has a classic heavy-gauge sterling silver frame with softly rounded corners. It features a rich, textured surface created through the tufa cast process, a traditional Navajo sand-casting technique using volcanic tuff stone that leaves behind this distinctive, slightly rough, and organic-looking finish on the silver. The center motif is a bold diamond shape inlaid with bright orange coral, containing a small cabochon at its heart inlaid with natural Kingman turquoise prized for its vibrant colors, unique matrix patterns and rich historical significance in Native American culture. The piece shows a nice patina with some natural oxidation, enhancing the depth and character of the casting. This is a solid, wearable example of traditional tufa-cast Navajo silverwork with strong visual impact.
