A timeless subject, the mountain Pedernal has been interpreted by many great painters who migrated here from many parts of the world. We are honored, at Chimayo Trading, to be featuring an exquisite painting of this magical mountain by Navajo master painter, Tony Abeyta.

Pedernal has become emblematic of the Southwest as has indigenous Navajo contemporary painter Tony Abeyta. Celebrated for his New Mexico landscapes which gleam like crystals with geometric precision, he represents a strong point of view, informed by his Diné heritage. A seer and a seeker, Abeyta continues to explore who he is and to continually question the role of art in Life.

Tony Abeyta is considered one of the very best painters of our time, recognized by the greatest institutions, collected by the finest museums and cherished worldwide. And he is also known as a man attentive to his culture and the history of his people, but also open to all peoples and ever learning.
