Larry Bell:

Larry Bell could live and work anywhere in the world, but he chooses to split his time between his large studio in Taos, New Mexico and one in Venice, California. He shows his work in the most prestigious venues and has contributed to an evolution in contemporary art, not just in his work itself, but even in the invention of unusual processes and technology that serve his curiosity about perception.
Chimayo Trading is thrilled to show his piece “Church Study”, part of a series of images conceived and constructed by the artist to include curvilinear forms that hint at his appreciation for acoustic guitars, and investigation of the “illusion of volume” on a flat plane. This large work incorporates an unusually shaped frame, deeper at the top and shallower at the bottom, according to the artists’ specifications.
The “Church Study” harnesses use of a little known technique developed for aeronautics adapted for use in his studio that projects thin metal films creating refined surface treatments of light and color that defy categorization. Larry Bell is truly in a class of his own, surpassing the traditional bounds of sculptural mediums to create an unprecedented body of work.
