Eric Marcus
The Masterful Touch of Family Legacy
Chimayo Trading Staff Report | March 2026
Eric Marcus is a contemporary Taos Pueblo artist specializing in traditional micaceous clay pottery traditionally sourced from areas near the Pueblo, and innovative extensions of crafting micaceous clay into jewelry. He is the son of renowned Taos Pueblo potter Angie Yazzie, who has been a major influence and teacher.
Angie has long worked with the signature micaceous clay from the Taos area which is naturally rich in shimmering mica flecks, and has passed down those skills. Eric has been involved with clay since childhood, learning from his mother over many years, though he became more actively involved in creating and selling his own pieces in recent times, and his work stays true to Taos Pueblo traditions.

Micaceous Clay Necklace and Earrings Set

What sets Eric apart is his creative expansion into wearable art. He’s known for hand-forming and firing micaceous clay beads into necklaces, earrings, pendants, and sets (like squash blossom-inspired or pearl-like “Taos Pearls”). These pieces capture the same glittery, earthy elegance as his pottery but make it portable and everyday-wearable, often paired with subtle gold accents for contrast. This striking micaceous clay necklace by Eric is a beautiful example of contemporary Native American wearable art that honors traditional materials and techniques while embracing bold, organic design.
