The exceptional carving of Chester Poleyestewa stands as a testament to Hopi tradition and exemplifies the historic aesthetic better than anyone else carving Katsinas today. His materials include the traditional cottonwood root, painted completely with natural plant and mineral dyes that Poleyestewa makes himself, with finishing touches of angora, deerskin and elegant feather work for which the artist is known.

Poleyestewa delivered on his promise to bring us a new collection of bird kachinas he’s been working on for months. This long awaited collection contains kachinas Poleyestewa has never made and we’ve never seen before. Now on display now at Chimayo Trading and available online at chimayotrading.com.
