Doug Candelaria is an artist who has been fascinated by Cowboys, Indians and Mountain Men since he was a child. Born and raised in Durango, CO he was surrounded by that atmosphere and can remember cattle being driven down the streets of his neighborhood. His paintings depict the life and traditions of the Plains and Desert Indians of the past, as well as the modern cowboy of the West. Ideas for his paintings come from attending Powows, local rodeos and artists’ gatherings at working cattle ranches.
He has taken painting classes with the likes of Kim Mackey, Teresa Vito, Georgle Strickland, Kim English, Jean LeGassick and John David Phillips as well as classes at the Cottonwood Art Academy. He had participated in numerous shows and exhibitions and was selected to paint interpretive panels for scenic overlooks managed by the Bureau of Land Managments.
We are pleased to welcome Doug to Chimayo Trading del Norte. Please come by and see his beautiful paintings in person.
